Arrive Adelaide today at your own leisure for your South Australia, Indian Pacific Icons package. On arrival make your way to your chosen accommodation then the rest of the day is free to explore Adelaide.

Monday

Adelaide City sights and PS Murray Princess

The touring on your South Australia, Indian Pacific Icons package starts with a tour of this delightful city, which is surrounded by parklands with a blend of historic buildings, wide streets, cafés and restaurants. Drive past Adelaide’s cultural precinct – North Terrace, the National Wine Centre, Adelaide Botanic Gardens and the beautiful Botanic Park, home to the Bicentennial Conservatory and the Adelaide Zoo. Continue through historic North Adelaide, where you’ll see tree-lined streets, mansions and historic buildings. Stop and visit the iconic St Peters Cathedral or the newly developed Adelaide Oval and the Haigh’s Chocolates Visitor Centre for a factory tour and tastings. You will return to your hotel in time to purchase lunch before being transferred to Mannum.

Mid-afternoon the PS Murray Princess departs historic Mannum, the birthplace of the Murray River trade and communication, and heads upriver while you enjoy a Welcome Dinner. As we cruise under floodlight to our overnight mooring at Caurnamont, you may see nocturnal wildlife on the riverbank. Watch for kangaroos, hairy-nosed wombats, tortoises, egrets and many other species. Our on-board entertainer provides music for the night owls.

Tuesday

Murray River – Lock No 1

Daybreak and time for the keen photographers to be out to capture the special light and the morning movement of wildlife. Prolific birdlife includes pelicans, wrens and swans. Enjoy a leisurely morning and lunch cruising upriver to Blanchetown through one of 13 locks which maintain the flow and levels of water. This afternoon we moor opposite to the township of Blanchetown for our overnight anchorage. As the last rays of the sun fade, we join a guided tour of Burk Salter Wines vineyards and surrounding vineyard and enjoy wine tasting at the cellar door which is fitted out with beautiful red gum bars. After dinner, join us for all the fun and excitement, and participate in our “Murray River Cup”.

Wednesday

Murray River -The Big Bend

After breakfast we cruise downriver to picturesque Swan Reach. The town was first settled in the 1850s, was originally the largest of five sheep and cattle stations in the area and is now home to native flower and fruit growers.
The original Swan Reach homestead is now the Swan Reach Hotel where you can enjoy an ale or cappuccino overlooking the Murray River (additional cost).Join the guided walking tour and visit the Swan Reach Museum – a must for every visitor.

Cruise downriver after lunch and take in the tranquillity as the landscape slides by. When we arrive at Sunnydale, it’s all ashore for the Woolshed Show as we recreate typical Australian woolshed history. Later we visit the Native Wildlife Shelter where some of South Australia’s most interesting native animals are cared for. And then of course, there is the great Aussie Barbecue – cooked and served in a bush setting on the banks of the mighty Murray River. An optional Nocturnal tour in a comfortable purpose built cart is available after dinner where you may see kangaroos, wombats, foxes, bats and owls (additional cost).

Thursday

Murray River-Ngaut Ngaut

After an optional early morning Bush Tucker Breakfast (additional cost) or a bush walk with the Captain, the vessel cruises slowly downriver past magnificent cliffs scoured by the river over millions of years. We reach Ngaut Ngaut Aboriginal Reserve, one of Australia’s most significant archaeological sites, for a step back in time – tens of thousands of years – for a guided boardwalk tour to view ancient rock carvings and to learn about Aboriginal history in the area.
We return to the vessel then cruise downriver to Younghusband. Along the way, adventure seekers can also take a speedboat ride. Tonight the Captain and his officers host a spectacular Farewell Captain’s Buffet Dinner. Dress up and dance, if you wish.

Friday

Murray River to Adelaide

We leave Younghusband and head back to Mannum. After breakfast we reluctantly say farewell as we arrive at the Mannum wharf, Where your coach will be waiting to return you to Adelaide for the next 2 nights. Or book the Barossa Valley transfer tour (additional Cost).

Sunday

Kangaroo Island

Enjoy a scenic coach trip through the Fleurieu Peninsula to Cape Jervis. Then on arrival board the Sealink ferry for the 45-minute crossing to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island to join your coach tour. Your first stop will be Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery to learn about the history of the oil distillery and take a guided tour, followed by the opportunity to purchase Eucalyptus products. Then travel to Vivonne Bay Bistro located on a 260-hectare bush property, for a two course lunch.

After lunch a very special activity on the South Australia, Indian Pacific Icons tour. A visit Seal Bay Conservation Park and enjoy a guided beach walk with a National Park Ranger amongst a breeding colony of wild and rare Australian Sea Lions. Your tour will then visit another amazing wildlife attraction, the In-flight Birds of Prey Display. Enjoy a delightful interactive experience and meet an array of birds and raptors. From here you will travel to Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park where you can get up close with Koalas, see Penguins swim and play, hand feed Kangaroos and Wallabies, learn about endangered species and interact with snakes and reptiles. You will then be transferred to your overnight accommodation.

Monday

Kangaroo Island – Adelaide

After morning hotel pick up your second day of touring begins with a visit to Clifford’s Honey Farm to enjoy an informative talk by the beekeeper followed by tastings and an opportunity to sample homemade honey ice-cream and honey beauty products. Next, travel to Hanson Bay Visitor Centre Cafe for a two course lunch. After lunch you have the chance to look for Koalas nestled up in the eucalypts and see an abundance of native birdlife in the wildlife sanctuary.

From here, travel to the western most part of the Island, Flinders Chase National Park, one of Australia’s largest and earliest conservation parks. Travel through the park and enjoy breathtaking views of its unique trees, plants and coastal scenery. You will be taken to the rugged southern coastline for a walk around Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch. Remarkable Rocks provide great photographic opportunities and stunning sea views. Admirals Arch boardwalk takes you down a rugged cliff face to reveal this spectacular arch, a natural nursery and safe haven for playful Long-nosed Fur Seals that can be seen swimming and playing in the waves, or resting on the rocks. Your tour concludes at Penneshaw where you board the Sealink ferry to Cape Jervis before connecting with the coach to Adelaide. Tour concludes at approximately 10:40pm, when you are returned to your overnight accommodation.

Depart Adelaide on the Indian Pacific
