Sydney to Grafton
Welcome to your Grafton Getaway rail package departing Sydney Central Station at 7.11am on board the Casino train. On arrival at Grafton, you will be met by your host from the Hilldrop Motor Inn and transferred to your accommodation, your home for the next five nights.
Yamba and Iluka.
We begin the day with a hearty hot breakfast and depart the motel 9 am for our first day exploring the valley. Going north-east and tracing the path of the mighty Clarence River, we head towards the coast while our driver delivers interesting and informative commentary.
You’ll pass stunning scenery in this vibrant farming region, full of historic pioneer villages, sugar fields, dairy herds and beef cattle. In no time you’ll arrive at Yamba to enjoy a complementary morning tea looking out across the town’s main beach and scenic headland. After exploring the area, we head for Yamba Bay to board the Clarence River Ferry over to Iluka. There you’ll enjoy a tasty lunch at Sedgers Reef Hotel (own expense).
Once we’re full and content, the bus tour travels back towards Grafton via a local cane farm, stopping at the fascinating model train exhibit at Harwood. We also stop at the Ferry Park visitor centre so you can pick a souvenir of the day’s journey.
Grafton City and Maclean.
Explore the first City on the North Coast, historic Grafton. Established in 1885 Grafton features wide tree lined streets and graceful old buildings. It’s one of Australia’s most beautiful rural cities.
In the morning we visit a range of local attractions, including a cattle auction, the Schaefer House museum and the Christ Church Cathedral. Then we watch jewellery being made at the Lapidary Club, before a lovely morning tea in beautiful See Park, and a drive down the spectacular Fig Tree Avenue.
The tour then breaks for lunch at Grafton Shopping World (own expense). Our next stop is the Scottish Capital of Australia, Maclean located on the banks of the Clarence River. After a scenic drive through Southgate and Lawrence, you will be able to take in the whole region from the Maclean lookout. There’s a short break in the town centre before we head back to Grafton via Woodford Island, famed for being the largest river island in the southern hemisphere.
Scenic Coffs Harbour and Woolgoolga
Today will be a great day on your Grafton Getaway motoring south to Woolgoolga. Taking in breathtaking views from the Woolgoolga headland lookout. Following a complimentary morning tea we head for the Clog Barn where our host makes Dutch Clogs before your eyes.Then it’s into the miniature Dutch Village before we continue our exploration of Coffs Harbour Jetty and Botanical Gardens. We break for lunch at the Palms Centre (own expense then commence our return to Grafton via the famous Big Banana then drive through Banana Plantations as we continue through the Wedding Bell forest drive to Nana Glen where you will visit Two Tails winery for a tasting and talk on wine.
World Heritage Washpool and the Gibralter Range.
A wonderful day to explore the world famous Washpool National Park from the comfort of your scenic tour bus. You will enjoy fabulous scenery as you drive through the scenic Mann River Valley then wind your way to the summit of the range. We motor deep into the wilderness area where we enjoy a delicious picnic lunch. You may choose to enjoy a 15-minute walk into the canopy of the rainforest. Re boarding the bus we head for Raspberry lookout and Boundary Creek Falls. We return to Grafton with a slight detour into the Mann River Crossing near Cangai. What a great day out.
After breakfast, your Grafton Getaway rail package is coming to an end when you are transferred to Grafton Railway Station in time to catch the 5.15am train to Sydney, arriving at 3.39pm with wonderful memories of your Grafton Getaway.
