Sydney to Broken Hill

Welcome to the Far Western NSW Outback Loop tour departing Sydney on the Outback Explorer in first class seats. Sit back, relaxing and enjoying the scenery as you are whisked away over the Blue Mountains through the Central West of NSW. As you continue your journey marvel at the ever changing scenery of Western NSW until you arrive into Broken Hill.

Mungo National Park

meniYour  NSW Outback Loop tour departs Broken Hill 8:30am we head toward Menindee to see the vast Menindee Lakes system and Darling River. Following the Darling River south we lunch at the historic river port of Pooncarrie then onto Mungo Lodge for overnight accommodation in the luxurious Mungo Lodge. Enjoy sunset over the magnificent Walls of China lunettes

Ivanhoe & Cobar

This morning we continue exploring more of Mungo National Park then head to our very own Ivanhoe Pub for lunch, in the quaint town that was once a changing post for the Cobb & Co horses. Next stop and over overnight stay is in Cobar, where you will learn all about this fascinating copper mining town. Enjoy the heritage buildings and learn more about the fascinating history of the area at the Cobar Heritage Centre which was once the beautiful Mines Office. Dinner and overnight accommodation at the Copper City Motel.

Thursday

Louth & Tilpa Pub

Leaving Cobar we head to Louth, home of the iconic Louth races, and then follow the meandering Darling River to Tilpa, one an important river port, for lunch at the quaint Tilpa Pub. From here we head to Warrawong on the Darling, just a short distance from Wilcannia. Sit back on the verandah of your lovely new cabins and enjoy the unspoilt tranquility while watching the amazing variety of birdlife and ever changing colours of the sunset

White Cliffs

Whilst here you get the opportunity to learn more about the history of Wilcannia and delve more into the Indigenous culture of the area. We then head to the remote opal mning town of White Cliffs to explore the first opals fields in Australia, and stay overnight at the famous Underground Motel.

Saturday

Mutawintji Historic Site

mutawinLearn more about local Indigenous history as we visit the ancient Aboriginal rock art in the restricted access Historic Site at Mutawintji National Park. Learn about the creation story in the cultural centre before doing and interpretive bushwalk to both the hand stencils and engravings galleries. Enjoy a relaxing picnic lunch before returning to Broken Hill late afternoon

Broken Hill City Sights and Sunset Sculptures Symposium

sunsetThis tour covers 50kms of our unique city. Listen as you tour guide tells you of the impact the enormous wealth of the “Silver City” had on the development of our great country. You will visit the Line of Lode Miners Memorial and Visitors Centre, this magnificent new attraction is located at the highest point of the Line of Lode overlooking the city. Hear of the origins of BHP and their eventual departure from the Silver City. See the vast differences from the early miners cottages to the modern homes of today. Your guide will show you the wonderful heritage buildings, churches and hotels. Take note of our green parklands and the magnificent fully grassed Broken Hill Golf Course, something that was just a dream to the early pioneers in this semi-arid climate.

Their free time in the afternoon until approx. 1 hour before sunset. When you head to the Sculptures Symposium. This tour is designed to take advantage of the stunning sunset in this vast land of ours as well as view one of the world’s major sculpture symposia. The site has 360 degree panoramic views enhanced by the colour of the sunset (weather permitting). Put this with the amazing work that 12 of the finest sculptors from all over the world have created and you have a tour that every visitor to Broken Hill must see.
