Departing Sydney Itinerary
Your 3 States 3 Trains holiday starts when you depart Sydney in the afternoon and start a true journey of contrasts – it will take you through the heights of the majestic Blue Mountains. Make your way to the Outback Explorer Lounge to meet fellow guests and help yourself to a welcome drink before dinner and settling down in your Gold Service cabin for the night.
Wake up with a coffee as you arrive in Broken Hill, a classic mining town where the streets are wide and there is a pub on every corner. On your Off Train Excursion, explore the beauty of this Silver City and discover the history of mining that makes the town what it is today and the artistic culture that also abounds in the area. Stepping back on board, head straight to Queen Adelaide Restaurant for breakfast. An extensive menu caters to all tastes – from light fare such as bagels, cereals and juices to the traditional cooked Australian breakfast. Take your time as you have a full day on board to yourself. By the time lunch is served, you’ll already be well into South Australia on the southern tip of the Flinders Ranges, before arriving Adelaide mid-afternoon for the next 2 nights.
Adelaide & Hahndorf
Your driver/guide will introduce you to this delightful city, which is surrounded by parklands with a blend of historic buildings, wide streets, cafés and restaurants. Drive past Adelaide’s cultural precinct – North Terrace, the National Wine Centre, Adelaide Botanic Gardens and the beautiful Botanic Park, home to the Bicentennial Conservatory and the Adelaide Zoo. Continue through historic North Adelaide, where you’ll see tree-lined streets, mansions and historic buildings. Stop and visit the iconic St Peters Cathedral or the newly developed Adelaide Oval then travel through the city’s east on the way to the Haigh’s Chocolates Visitor Centre for a factory tour and tastings of this famous South Australian chocolate.
After a lunch break (not included), enjoy a scenic drive to Mount Lofty Summit, Adelaide’s highest peak. Take in the spectacular views of the city and the coastline – a perfect photo opportunity. Wind your way through the Adelaide Hills villages of Crafers, Stirling, Aldgate and Bridgewater before arriving at Hahndorf, Adelaide’s oldest German settlement. Spend the afternoon exploring the main street of Hahndorf where you can sample local produce, check out the local arts and crafts before enjoying afternoon tea or a traditional German beer tasting at the very popular Hahndorf Inn.
A true highlight of your 3 States 3 Trains holidays when you visit to Kangaroo Island. Enjoy a scenic coach trip through the Fleurieu Peninsula to Cape Jervis. On arrival board the Sealink ferry for the 45-minute crossing to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island to join your coach tour. Your first stop will be Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery to learn about the history of the oil distillery and take a guided tour, followed by the opportunity to purchase Eucalyptus products.
Then travel to Vivonne Bay Bistro located on a 260-hectare bush property, for a two course lunch. After lunch visit Seal Bay Conservation Park and enjoy a guided beach walk with a National Park Ranger amongst a breeding colony of wild and rare Australian Sea Lions. Your tour will then visit another amazing wildlife attraction, the In-flight Birds of Prey Display. Enjoy a delightful interactive experience and meet an array of birds and raptors. From here you will travel to Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park where you can get up close with Koalas, see Penguins swim and play, hand feed Kangaroos and Wallabies, learn about endangered species and interact with snakes and reptiles. You will then be transferred to your overnight accommodation.
Kangaroo Island – Adelaide
After morning hotel pick up your second day of touring begins with a visit to Clifford’s Honey Farm to enjoy an informative talk by the beekeeper followed by tastings and an opportunity to sample homemade honey ice-cream and honey beauty products. Next, travel to Hanson Bay Visitor Centre Cafe for a two course lunch. After lunch you have the chance to look for Koalas nestled up in the eucalypts and see an abundance of native birdlife in the wildlife sanctuary.
From here, travel to the western most part of the Island, Flinders Chase National Park, one of Australia’s largest and earliest conservation parks. Travel through the park and enjoy breathtaking views of its unique trees, plants and coastal scenery. You will be taken to the rugged southern coastline for a walk around Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch. Remarkable Rocks provide great photographic opportunities and stunning sea views. Admirals Arch boardwalk takes you down a rugged cliff face to reveal this spectacular arch, a natural nursery and safe haven for playful Long-nosed Fur Seals that can be seen swimming and playing in the waves, or resting on the rocks. Your tour concludes at Penneshaw where you board the Sealink ferry to Cape Jervis before connecting with the coach to Adelaide. Tour concludes at approximately 10:40pm, when you are returned to your overnight accommodation.
The Overland – Adelaide to Melbourne
After completing the South Australian section of your 3 States 3 Trains holiday today you depart Adelaide on the Overland. Still the best way to travel between Adelaide and Melbourne, the Overland Red Premium provides more services and more personal space. You’ll have plenty of room to move and the chance to meet fellow travelers in a comfortable, friendly environment. Sit back and relax watching the ever changing scenery.
Best of Melbourne
Your 3 States 3 Trains package continues with a morning free before joining the unique Best of Melbourne tour which is a showcase of Melbourne’s charm. Enjoy a gourmet boxed lunch as you cruise the Yarra River taking in the sights of the city from a different perspective. The coach tour will then show you a side of Melbourne that will give you a better insight into our way of life visiting the Botanic Gardens, Acland Street in St Kilda and Brighton Beach bathing boxes. Complete your day with an unforgettable experience of dining in a 1927 Colonial Tramcar Restaurant where a sumptuous three course dinner with beverages is served.
A relaxing and pleasant morning tour surrounded by the rainforest of the Dandenong Ranges National Park. Greenery everywhere and sound of nature with bird calls makes for a scenic and delightful tour. Visit Sherbrooke Forest with its tall eucalypts and at Grants Picnic Ground, enjoy an authentic Australian experience … our Aussie style Bush Billy Tea with lamingtons, Vegemite and crackers. Here you will also get to meet many of the locals … Crimson Rosellas and King Parrots! There is time for a short bushwalk before riding on Australia’s most notable narrow gauge railway on Puffing Billy steam train. This tour returns to the city at 1pm leaving you time to explore the city’s famous shopping precinct and many dining areas.
Melbourne to Sydney
This morning you will make your way to Southern Cross Station to join The XPT. You can sit back, relax and enjoy the countryside in your First Class Seat before arriving into Sydney late evening, which brings to an end of wonderful 9 day 3 States 3 Trains holiday.
