Wednesday

Depart Sydney on the Indian Pacific

(D)

Depart Sydney in the afternoon and start a true journey of contrasts – it will take you through the heights of the majestic Blue Mountains and across the barren expanse of the Nullarbor Plain, to lush vineyards and vast goldmines, and from cities of 4 million to ghost towns of just four citizens. Named for the two oceans the train encounters on its journey, the Indian Pacific travels between Perth and Sydney, via Adelaide, in a spectacular 4352km journey.

Get acquainted with staff and your cabin and settle in for the journey. As you venture beyond the city limits, settle back, open a book or switch on your onboard radio upon approach to the spectacular Blue Mountains. If you’d rather be social, make your way to the Outback Explorer Lounge to meet fellow guests and help yourself to a welcome drink. After a sumptuous dinner, join other guests for a few late-night drinks or head to your cabin to settle in early and await the sights of your first incredible outback sunrise the next day

Thursday

Broken Hill – Adelaide

(B,L,D)

Wake up with a coffee as you arrive in Broken Hill, a classic mining town where the streets are wide and there is a pub on every corner. On your Off-Train Excursion, explore the beauty of this Silver City and discover the history of mining that makes the town what it is today and the artistic culture that also abounds in the area. Visit the Pro Hart Gallery, where you can learn all about one of Australia’s most iconic and enduring artists, whose art captures the spirit of the outback.

Stepping back onboard, head straight to Queen Adelaide Restaurant for breakfast. An extensive menu caters to all tastes. Take your time as you have a full day onboard to yourself. By the time lunch is served, you’ll already be well into South Australia on the southern tip of the Flinders Ranges In no time, you’ll notice a dramatic change in landscape as the outback makes way for the green fields of South Australia. Your choice for the afternoon and evening is Adelaide’s cultural precinct, or the historic regions of either Hahndorf or Barossa Valley. Sample Barossa Valley’s boutique wines and learn about winemaking with a sumptuous tour; or visit the picturesque village of Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills, Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement. From October to March, you’ll have the option to visit renowned and surprising culinary region of McLaren Vale, the place where the ‘vines meet the sea’. Alternatively, stay in the city of Adelaide and explore one of Australia’s premier cultural institutions, with a private guided tour of the SA Museum, home to the most significant collection of Australian Aboriginal cultural material in the world.

Stepping back onboard, you’ll find your bed turned down and a nightcap waiting. For the next epic 24 hours, you’ll embark on the longest leg of the journey across the Nullarbor Plain.

Friday

The Nullarbor Plain

(B,L,D)

Wake up and marvel at the raw beauty of the Nullarbor. Taking its name from the Latin meaning ‘no trees’, the ancient Nullarbor conjures the sense of limitless space and time. Take some time to reflect on the changing landscapes in your journey and to enjoy the hospitality of the Outback Explorer Lounge as you travel across Australia’s longest single stretch of railway.

Your sense of wonder will be well and truly ignited when it comes time to set foot at Rawlinna that evening. Under brilliant desert stars, enjoy an evening stop to partake in canapes and drinks under the wide Nullarbor skies.

Perth’s Best Wildflower Tour

(L)

With a botanical guide we travel to various locations on Perth’s outskirts in search of the finest wildflowers.

Whilst the slope, soils and ancient granite outcrops of the Darling Escarpment are traditionally the ideal habitat and location to view wildflowers, profusion varies daily and is dependent on sunshine.

We visit locations all around the Perth region where we expect to find the finest wildflowers for you to see and smell, monitoring the progress of wildflowers once in season ensures we minimise travel time. Kings Park is renowned for its guarantee of wildflowers but also areas such as Wireless Park, Gingin and Toodyay are also prolific at various times.

Our experienced guide will help you identify rare and delicate wildflowers including renowned everlastings, orchids, red and green kangaroo paw, banksias, bottle brush and Western Australia’s most famous orange flowering Christmas trees.

There is ample time to identify and photograph flowers and a complimentary wildflower booklet on Western Australia’s unique wildflowers is included.
